Location & Environment

Location and Environment:

I've decided to create a fictional city set in a fictional world which will be used as the main setting for my game and level; taking heavy, heavy influence from Manchester's architecture and the industrial revolution machinery and contraptions.

The Time Period of the  game will be in a sort of, past future zone.

With the prologue of the game set during the initial industrial revolution, a time when Steam was the main source of power to the world.

Fast forward 500 years (2400?), the world never sees the dawn of the technological age and steam power remains the only sources of power to fuel mankind.

This leaves the world baron; depleted of natural resources like fossil fuels, minerals and metals as well as forests and trees. Everything is burnt and destroyed to power the large machinery necessary for "modern living". People are herded into cell like structures acting as the only safe zones on the planet; most of which has become desert like, making it impossible to survive.

These cell areas act as cites for the remaining populous to live and survive in. Food, water and supplies are shared between the cites, with facility's for work, recreation and sleep contained in each individual cell. Inhabitants are forbidden to leave and often spend their entire lives in one station.

Perspective Shot

The gimmicky aspect of my game and something that Ill hopefully define the gameplay, is the moving buildings.

I want buildings to move in a vertical way, which Ill explain later, but on a grander scale there is a rotating section of 3 living tiers.

Blue Zones - The blue sections are split into 3 residential tiers.
Yellow - Recreation Zone.
Green - Industrial Zone.
Purple - Civic Zone

The ring of residential zones will rotate and line up with the work / recreation zone. Each individual section of the residential ring will spend time in the industrial, recreation and rest zones over an 8 hour period.

This video explains it better than I ever could:

This means then that there is a constant stream of workers manning the industrial zone and working consistently for 24 hours, yearly.

I have my reasons why this is happening, how it works and why people are tricked into this life style, but that can remain for my eventual "Story" blog post. I just wanted this to set the scene for my location.

Thats all for now.

____

It was really hard to make this one funny, so Ill end with a joke.

What does it sound like when a one legged man wears flip flops?

Flop. Flop. Flop. Flop.
